Statement of intent
For my Architecture project what I wanted to show something a little different to all my other projects because ordinarily I capture people, I think its good to switch up a little bit. Inside this I am going to capture very famous locations that are easily recognizable and also capture some other interesting structures that people might never have seen. I want to include different cultures and places around the world because I believe the most interesting thing about architecture is the culture behind the buildings. They all have a story behind them and its so interesting to see how they're shown through different buildings.
I will research a number of different photographers to inspire me to do different types of photos and edits for example Simon Buckley because he is based locally in Manchester.

Mock Analysis
Context
The artist behind this photo (Great Eastern Hotel - 5 star architects) is called Simon Buckley, he lives in Salford and this definitely shows through his work pretty much straight away with the Joy Division mural in the background with the lyrics of their most well known song. The mural is very impactful at the time this came out (2016) because Joy division had changed to new order a long time since then meaning its probably quite old and it kind of looks like the building they're building it going to get in the way of it meaning that this was going to be one of the last more clear photos of it. Manchester's always and still is a very musical city so it's very important to its culture and so it only makes sense to be included in this photo.
Content
This landscape photograph has got a lot of things to look at like the concrete blocks connecter to the metal stabilizers, the mural and the already built buildings in the background. Because of that it is extremely engaging . I think it shows very well the scale of the things that builders construct because you can see a builder at the bottom and he looks especially small in comparison to the things he's building. I also think it shows Manchester very well with the art on the left with a quote from joy division who coincidentally also lived in Salford the same place as the photographer. I think its meant to represent Manchester as a whole and also how it came to be what it is (through building it).It is cleverly called walk the plank and I think this because building can be risky work and bad things can happen obviously plank linking back to building as well. Something to note is that the lights have been exaggerated and shine more than they would in real life making them look like little stars which makes the image more interesting I think.
Composition
I definitely think that the rules of thirds have been used. I think this because on the bottom half there are all these beams and foundation to a building then in the middle there is those typical Manchester town centre type buildings and also the lights drawing us in at the sweet spots. I really like there use of space I think that it is good because it shows construction and then also Manchester in the same picture, it is very thought out and there's no part of the picture that feels like it shouldn't be there and I also think for that reason he must have used a tripod because the positioning seems very intentional. I would think for a picture with this lighting he would've probably used cloudy. I dont think the ISO would be high because the picture isn't noisy and its dark but everything is in focus so I would assume the f stop is around f/16. I think that he definitely used a slower shutter speed like 1/15 because i feel like he let the let it absorb as much light as possible.
Connection
I like the work because I think its good at respresenting what it is aiming to represent and I think it does well at showing Manchester in a positive light. However one weakness I could think of is the fact that there is no colour pallet at all there is just a lot of different colours and it puts it off a little bit however I think that It also helps it show how much there is going on in Manchester and I think if they changed it it might have been less effective. I think in future shoots i should just except whats in the photo as something that was meant to be there instead of cropping it out and also maybe think of the message behind any of my photos because non of them are as meaningful as this one.

Moodboard for edit
Giacome Costa was born in Florance, Italy and has been making dystopian landscapes for over 2 decades. In Costa’s “Aqua” and “Secret Garden” series’ he studied the natural environment gradually reclaiming the urban, man made landscape. Costa further investigates the relationship between man and nature in the series “Landscapes”, the artist explains that this series “represents the total defeat of nature which, having triumphed over man and having reclaimed it’s space, takes upon itself the indelible signs that the senseless behaviour of man left”. The exhibition “Landscape 2012” juxtaposes these two representations and views of possible future landscapes. Even though I'm not going to achieve this on my first shoot or edit i still want to take inspiration from him because i really like the dystopian and apocalyptic effect that he uses through his edits.
